Overnight Care — Waking & Sleeping Nights

Professional night-time support in the comfort of your own home, giving you and your family peace of mind through every hour of the night.

Discuss Overnight Care Options

What Is Overnight Care?

For many families, the night-time is the most worrying part of the day. The thought of a loved one being alone through the night — perhaps at risk of falling, becoming confused, or needing help that nobody is there to give — causes real anxiety and lost sleep for everyone involved.

Overnight care is the answer. A trained carer is present in your home throughout the night, providing support, supervision, and reassurance from evening until morning. Whether your loved one needs active help several times during the night or simply the security of knowing someone is there if needed, overnight care delivers peace of mind that no amount of monitoring technology can replace.

At Kays 24-7 Care Services, we offer two types of overnight support — waking nights and sleeping nights — and we help you choose the right option based on your loved one's needs.

Waking Nights vs Sleeping Nights — Which Do You Need?

We offer two types of overnight care. The right choice depends on how much support your loved one needs during the night.

Waking Night Care

Best for: Clients who need regular, active support throughout the night.

Your carer remains awake and alert for the entire night, ready to assist at any moment. Waking night care is recommended when your loved one needs frequent help during the night hours.

What waking night care includes:

  • Toileting and continence support throughout the night
  • Medication administration at scheduled times
  • Regular repositioning and turning to prevent pressure sores
  • Support for clients who wander, become confused, or feel anxious at night
  • Monitoring breathing, comfort, and wellbeing
  • Emergency response and immediate assistance

Sleeping Night Care

Best for: Clients who are generally settled at night but may occasionally need help.

Your carer sleeps in your home overnight and is available to wake and assist if needed. Sleeping night care provides a reassuring presence without the cost of a fully waking shift.

What sleeping night care includes:

  • Assistance with toileting if your loved one wakes during the night
  • Help getting back into bed after a bathroom visit
  • Reassurance if your loved one wakes feeling confused or unsettled
  • Response to falls or emergencies during the night
  • Support settling back to sleep

Not sure which option is right? We assess your loved one's night-time needs during a free home visit and recommend the most appropriate type of overnight support. We always advise honestly — if sleeping nights are sufficient, we will say so.

Who Benefits from Overnight Care?

Night-time support is appropriate for a wide range of situations. Families arrange overnight care with us for clients who:

Are at Risk of Falls During the Night

Older adults or those with mobility difficulties who may get up during the night and are at risk of falling without someone to assist them safely.

Live with Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease

People who experience sundowning, night-time wandering, confusion, or agitation after dark — when disorientation is often at its worst.

Require Regular Repositioning

Clients who are bed-bound or have limited mobility and need turning throughout the night to prevent pressure sores and maintain comfort.

Need Medication During the Night

Those who require medication to be administered at specific times during the night, where missing a dose could affect their health or comfort.

Have Recently Left Hospital

Clients discharged from hospital who are recovering and need night-time supervision during the early, most vulnerable stage of their return home.

The Hidden Cost of Night-Time Worry

0%

of family carers report that disturbed sleep is one of the most difficult aspects of caring.

When a family carer lies awake listening for sounds from the next room, or gets up repeatedly through the night to help a loved one, the impact on their own health is profound. Chronic sleep deprivation affects concentration, mood, physical health, and the ability to continue caring during the day.

Overnight care removes that burden. You sleep. We watch over your loved one. Everyone wakes in a better place.
